Metoprolol MCC 25 mg

Presentation:

Tablets containing 25mg metoprolol tartrate, packed in boxes with 3 blisters of 10 tablets each.

Therapeutic action:

Metoprolol is a cardio-selective beta-blocker which acts on b1-receptors principally found in the heart. It reduces the arterial pressure both in clino and ortostatism and also reduces the tendency of increasing pressure after mental and physical effort.

Indications:

  • Arterial hypertension
  • Angina pectoralis
  • Rhythm perturbations (arrhythmia, asystolia)
  • Treatment of cardiac failure
  • Migraine prevention

Dosage:

Adults: treatment of hypertension on adult patients usually begins with daily doses of 100mg metoprolol tartrate divided in 2 doses. This dose can be raised with 100mg daily after each week of treatment until disered effect is reached. Maximum dose should not surpass 200mg twice daily.

Children: Use of metoprolol tartrate is not recommended on children due to the lack of clinical experience.

Contraindications:

  •     Hypersensitivity on metoprolol tartrate or to any other of the product excipients
  •     Bronchial asthma and severe chronical obstructive broncho-pneumopaty
  •     De-compensated cardiac deficiency
  •     Cardiac shock
  •     AV block of 2nd – 3rd degree
  •     Bradicardy (<45-50 beats/ minute)
  •     Cardiac insufficiency non responding to treatment
  •     Severe deficiency of peripheral circulation associated with pain or trophic disturbances
  •     Hypotension

Precautions:

In angina pectoralis, treatment cannot be abrupt interrupted because rhythm perturbations, myocardial failure or sudden death may appear. Thus, interruption should be made gradually, reducing the doses along 1-2 weeks. When on treatment alcohol should be avoided.

Pregnancy and nursing:

METOPROLOL 25, 50 sau 100 mg – tablets should be used in pregnancy only if it’s drastically needed. Because metoprolol tartrate is excreted in breast milk nursing or metoprolol administration should be interrupted.

Adverse reactions:

Nervous system: fatigue, dizziness, headaches, rarely paresthesia, muscular cramps.

Cardiovascular system: bradicardy, hypotension; rarely cardiac insufficiency, arrhythmia, edema, palpitations, Raynaud syndrome.

Skin: rarely skin eruptions like urticaria, dystrophic lesions and psoriasis like. In rare cases photo sensitivity, excessive transpiration, alopecia.

Respiratory system: occasionally dispnea on effort, bronchial spasm, isolated rhinitis.
